So-called “movement conservatives” have long claimed former Arizona Senator and 1964 GOP presidential nominee Barry Goldwater as the founder of their movement. They’re very fond of trotting out Goldwater’s most famous quip, “extremism in defense of liberty is no vice,” but these days some of his other quotations are curiously ignored. Although we shouldn’t be surprised that religious conservatives would take certain parts of a message as gospel truth while totally ignoring others— they do it with the Bible every day.

Rick Santorum has won the Missouri primary, called the “Beauty Contest” primary since its delegates aren’t pledged to the winner, but remain open until the nominating convention.
This is admittedly a bit of a cheap shot, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity to draw ol’ Rick in a dress.

Mitt Romney has won the Florida Republican primary by a handy margin, after spending $17 million on an all-out blitzkrieg of negative ads against his main opponent, bloated gasbag and serial adulterer Newt Gingrich. Even though there are still 46 primaries to go, the conventional wisdom is that Romney has pretty much clinched the nomination by now. …Which everybody knew all along, since the candidate who spends the most almost always wins.
Oh, and if you think it’s unfair to depict Mitt Romney Rmoney with cash bulging from his Brooks Brothers suit, I’ll just point out that he started it.
